The concept is simple, the rewards are priceless! The goal is to read 1,000 books before your child starts kindergarten. Does it sound hard? Not really if you think about it. If you read just one book a night, you'll have read 365 books in a year. That's 730 books in two years and 1,095 books in three years. If you consider that most children start kindergarten at five years of age, you have more time than you think!
This program is based on evidence that the more children (ages 0–5) hear books read to them, the more prepared they'll be to learn and enjoy reading upon reaching kindergarten.
To Participate:
- Ages 0-6
- Pick up a reading log booklet in the youth department.
- Prizes will be awarded to participants when they reach 500 and 1,000 books.
- This program is a work-at-your-own-pace program.
- End Date: Your child's first day of kindergarten.
