The City of Kearney Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Program now has a way to recycle fluorescent tube light bulbs from homeowners. With grant funding through the Nebraska State Recycling Association, the HHW Program was able to purchase a Bulb Eater 3 Light Bulb Crusher. This piece of equipment will allow the HHW program to safely break and recycle the glass from fluorescent light bulbs while at the same time keeping the mercury vapors that are contained in these bulbs out of the environment. The Bulb Crusher is able to crush both fluorescent tube light bulbs and the compact fluorescent light bulbs.
The drop off location for these light bulbs is located at the Household Hazardous Waste facility at 3620 Box Butte Avenue, just to the southeast of the Recycling Center. Please use care when handling and dropping off the fluorescent lightbulbs. This program is for household use only. If you have any questions about this program or about HHW disposal please call 308-233-3208.
