To strengthen the alliance between the library and the Kearney and Buffalo County citizens by helping them understand the roles, services and needs of the library; leading the way in developing a program to expand and promote the library along with its services and resources, and aiding in the library's growth in any way necessary.
About the Organization
Kearney Friends of the Library is a volunteer organization that formed in 1969 to advocate for construction of a new library building. Friends provide funds for items and services that enhance the library's user experience. The Friends organization has supported the library and its services by:
Providing funding for special programming, including the summer reading program (youth and adult)
Sponsoring the coffee bar located in the library
Purchasing book bags for book club use
Hosting the annual Friends of the Library Fall Book Sale
Appreciating the library staff
Friends of the Library holds a book sale of donated and discarded books each fall. A smaller collection of sale items are available in the East hallway of the library throughout the year. Donations for this sale are accepted at the library year-round.
The Friends Board meetings are on the second Monday of the month, except in December and July.
We always welcome new Friends! Return your application in person or by mail to the library to join.
