Purpose
To strengthen the alliance between the library and the Kearney and Buffalo County citizens by helping them understand the roles, services and needs of the library; leading the way in developing a program to expand and promote the library along with its services and resources, and aiding in the library's growth in any way necessary.
About the Organization
Kearney Friends of the Library is a volunteer organization that formed in 1969 to advocate for construction of a new library building. Friends provide funds for items and services that enhance the library's user experience. The Friends organization has supported the library and its services by:
- Providing funding for:
- special programming, including the summer reading program for youth and adults
- new technology in the makerspace
- new outdoor signage
- books and book club bags for patron use
- new sound system in the KPL meeting rooms
- outdoor art projects
- fireproof cabinet for microfilm storage
- Sponsoring the coffee bar located in the library
- Sponsorship and incentives for the Read and Bleed blood drive at KPL
Book Sales
Friends of the Library sell a collection of items in the East hallway of the library throughout the year. Donations for this sale shelf are accepted at the library year-round.

e on the second Monday every other month, except in December and July.
Join Us
We always welcome new Friends! Friends of the Library has a board of officers and representatives who oversee its activities. 100% of the money garnered goes into library needs or programming.
We encourage folks who value and utilize KPL to become a member and join the effort to keep our library a top-notch facility and completely free to the public.
