Overview
According to a recent government survey 40% of U.S. water bodies were still impaired by pollution, failing to meet government standards. It’s a problem we contribute to – most of the time unknowingly – when we let harmful pollutants run into our storm drains and enter our waterways.
The City of Kearney, in conjunction with the
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the
Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality (NDEQ), are currently in the process of developing and implementing stormwater pollution controls. The common goal of these programs is to reduce pollutants that enter our nation’s water bodies.
The pollution of stormwater will affect everyone greatly; this is why our program will be targeting such a wide variety of contributing elements including industry construction activities and residential community habits. The new programs will outline many simple practices that can be done to detect and reduce pollution early.
It is our hope this website will provide you with as much information possible about stormwater pollution, it’s effects, and what can be done to protect our surface and ground waters.
