The concept is simple, the rewards are priceless! The goal is to read 1,000 books before your child starts kindergarten. Does it sound hard? Not really if you think about it. If you read just one book a night, you'll have read 365 books in a year. That is 730 books in two years and 1,095 books in three years. If you consider that most children start kindergarten at around five years of age, you have more time than you think! Visit the youth area anytime to pick up a booklet. This is a work at your own pace program. Prizes will be awarded to participants when they reach 500 and 1,000 books.
Each day beginning Wednesday, December 1, and ending Wednesday, December 15, youth are invited to come to the library and find Flurry the Snowman! Flurry will be somewhere different each day in our youth area. Using an entry form from the youth area, list where Flurry is hiding the day of your visit. You will have the chance to win one of our snowman prizes. One entry, per day, per child.
Each day beginning Wednesday, December 1, and ending Wednesday, December 15, teens can try to guess the number of ornaments in the guessing jar. We will be giving away five $10 Target gift cards to the closest guesses. One entry, per day, per teen.
Learn how to access the library’s digital newspaper collections! We’ll do a basic introduction on the Historic Kearney Hubs (1889-1957), the Kearney Hub Collection from NewsBank (1958-Present), and Access World News, which includes many regional newspapers. This class is being offered via Zoom. Registrants will need to sign up with their personal email address.
