Residential Spring Cleanup – Free Landfill Days

CityOfKearney_logo_png

Put some Spring in your (cleaning) step! It’s Spring Cleanup time in Kearney.

The City of Kearney’s Landfill Division announces that during the month of May 2023, residents of the City of Kearney will be admitted, one time per residence, to the Kearney Area Solid Waste Agency Landfill free of charge. This is an opportunity for the residents of Kearney to do some spring cleaning of their property and to assist with the general overall improvement of the community. This free event is for residential waste only and will not apply to contractors or commercial waste haulers. Residents are allowed up to one level full pickup, 4’ by 8’ trailer or car load of debris during the month of May. Kearney residents must present a copy of a recent City of Kearney Utility bill or proof of a City of Kearney address for free access to the landfill. Residents may expect long lines and waiting periods because the Landfill must maintain disposal records required by the Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy.

All landfill rules apply, such as covering all loads to prevent waste materials from littering. Tree and yard waste should be hauled separately from household waste items. If you are interested in using your free load for tree waste (tree trimmings above 1” in diameter), please let the scale house know.

The landfill is located at 6711 West 56th Street and has the following summer hours:

Landfill Hours

  • Monday through Friday      8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
  • Saturday                           8:00 AM to 2:00 PM

Yard Waste and Tree Disposal Hours

  • Monday through Friday      8:00 AM to 6:00 PM
  • Saturday                           8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
  • Sunday                             1:00 PM to 5:00 PM
