Making It Between Collections
Cost of Extra Collections
Please do not call for extra recyclable or trash collection. Collection trucks cost about $96 per hour to operate. Diverting these trucks from their normally scheduled route is not efficient and can cost ratepayers as much as $50 for extra collections.
Alternatives to Extra Curbside Recyclable Collection
Instead of calling for an extra collection of recyclables, use one of the recyclable drop-off sites or keep a box in the garage to store recyclables until the collection OR residents can purchase a second recyclable container for $100. The second container will be emptied free on the same schedule as the original container. Contact the Sanitation Division at 308-233-3206 for more information.
Alternatives to Extra Curbside Trash Collection
Instead of calling for an extra trash collection put food waste and unsanitary wastes in your container first. Leave newspaper, cardboard, tin, plastic, etc. in a box in your garage to be placed in your trash container just before your trash is collected. If not all of your waste will fit in the trash container save it until your next collection day.
Better yet take the extra paper, cardboard, tin, glass, and plastic to a recyclable drop-off site or sign up for free curbside collection of recyclables by calling (308) 233-3206.
