Electronic Waste
  • Electronic waste generated from households is not regulated hazardous waste.
  • Federal and State regulations specifically exclude waste generated at households from hazardous waste regulations.
  • The City of Kearney and the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality encourages households to recycle or reuse electronic waste.
  • Goodwill at 3906 4th Avenue accepts electronic waste for recycling. Acceptable items include:

    • desktop computers
    • monitors
    • mice
    • printers
    • scanners
    • laptop computers
    • keyboards
    • computer speakers
    • hard drives

  • Computer Hardware at 2315 2nd Avenue accepts electronic waste for recycling. Acceptable items include:
    • all computers and computer components
    • TV's
    • VCR's
    • stereo and gaming equipment
    • CFL light bulbs and fluorescent tubes

  • Commercial Businesses that generate hazardous waste must comply with State Law regarding hazardous waste disposal.
    • Some electronic waste is classified as hazardous waste.
    • Commercial businesses should call Erik Waiss, Environmental Assistance Coordinator, Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality at (402) 471-8308 for advice before disposing of any hazardous or electronic waste.
