Volunteer Policies
  • Kearney Public Library will attempt to place patrons from ninth grade onward with appropriate tasks.
  • The Library does not place court-ordered diversion patrons.
  • The Library will accept as many students fulfilling school requirements as can be reasonably managed.
  • Every volunteer will be subject to a criminal background check (through the Kearney Police Department).
  • Formal orientation for new volunteers will be provided.

What Do Volunteers Do?
Volunteers at the Library generally help with tasks such as keeping books neat and organized on the shelves, creating displays, mending scratched discs, assisting with programs or special projects, cleaning, and more.

Youth going into the 5th grade through 12th grade can help volunteer during the Summer Reading Program, which starts in late May and runs through the end of July. Youth interested in volunteering in the summer can make arrangements with the Youth Services Librarian.

Get Started Volunteering
Visit the Library and ask to fill out a Volunteer Application Form, or print one from our website and return it to the Library. The Circulation Coordinator will contact you within one week.

You can also help to support the Library by joining the Friends of the Library. See the Friends’ page on our website for more information.

If you have any questions about volunteering at the Library, contact the Circulation Coordinator at (308) 233-3277 or Email.
